writing blog_day one

I have determined to write at least five hundred words per day to improve my writing skills. I really want to become a researcher. However, without good writing skills, it is hard to achieve. Therefore, I consider practicing my english to be the most important thing that I should do now. For today, I will explore a bit on the topic of how to write better.

How can I write a good English article? It is extremely important to first have a clear theme as everything that you have to write will organize around it. The theme will determinate the structure and the organization, which will further affect how people read it. A surprising theme can attract people and a boring theme will make your article destine to fail. Just like a good plot is the essence of a successful story, a creative theme is the heart of a attractive article. Then you will need to train your writing skills, which constitute not only grammar, but also vocabulary, accuracy and clarity. I definitely do not want to write like Sartre, whose Being and Nothingness is extremely hard to read. I do not want my readers to spend so much time just to figure out what I mean. On the contrary, I want my article to have certain degree of depth, with critical personal thoughts, self-reflection and feelings. I do not want to speak like academic zombie with no emotions in it.

Music is very interesting, ethnomusicology is even more interesting. It is a pity if I cannot convey the happiness that I feel in doing research and I will be very sad if I can only use the plainest language to explain the most exciting field experience. It is in the language that people can perceive, can feel, and can experience. The most authentic translation of subjective experience is thus in the language, without it, no matter how much you get from the experience, you just cannot express and convey it to other people. How to write the good article? Persistence, diligence and careful observation determines your result. I want to write like Kisliuk. Her ethnography is full of passion and emotions, moreover, they are simple but not without serious thoughts. Among all the articles that I see, so far I found hers to be the best. Not because the other is not good, just because it is really my favourite one. Nonetheless, I will continue to search for writing styles that I like. Copying is the first step to learn and your own style will develop during the course of copying.

I have made a start, it will be great if I can continue and someday, hope that I can write like a professional writer.
